colin carron 58,916 Posted August 3, 2004 An architectural study trying to capture the feeling of this 800 year old church. The door hinges are quite something aren't they? All comments and ratings welcome! Link to comment
bernhard 0 Posted August 3, 2004 The open door and the little bit of outside visible give me a sense of seeing more than is in the pic, some kind of anticipation what might come through this door (or pondering what has left). Together with the pespective view down to the window in the back and the few chairs visible on the right the photo looks 'open' on 3 sides, which miraculously gives the pic a sense of center, just like looking at crossing roads. paul_m._woods 0 Posted August 3, 2004 This is very pleasant. I like the delicate colours, although the window at the back suffers from overexposure a touch. If it was mine, I think I would have cropped out the chairs to the right, but I don't think it suffers terribly from having them included. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted August 3, 2004 Thanks for your comments! Paul I did consider cropping the chairs etc but wanted the column on the right 'room to breathe' so left them in. I agree they are not an ideal bit of the picture though. I am happy with the overexposure of the window though. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 4, 2004 Colin, what a composition! the sources of light from the window and door, and the blue light "line' that as if connecting them, is so special. The colomn is magestic, the chairs does not distruct. The door that is open to the out, that is "Winking" in( the green outside) ....Well done! Colin. Pnina Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted August 5, 2004 I agree with all of the previous comments. ALL of the iron work on the door is intriguing. What is also interesting, to me, is that this old building seems to still be in use. There's so much here ... the columns could be a study in and of themselves. I also like the brights and darks represented here. Good work! Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted August 5, 2004 Pnina thanks. I admit to being a little pleased about the light in this one! Lou Ann, yes almost every village in UK has a parish church such as this, many of them being medieval and almost all in use. They are usually left unlocked except for the urban ones but I had to clone out a CCTV camera. A sad comment on the vandalism that occurs these days. In many places in UK the parish church is the oldest surviving building by some hundreds of years. Link to comment

camilla 5 Posted October 27, 2004 The light from three directions, the open door which you have managed to get in without cropping makes this very good. I actually think it's a good thing you didn't crop the chairs out. Keeping the pillar intact, along with some space behind it keeps balance and sense of space. The strong light from the small window up ahead is nice in this setting, I don't mind if it's a bit burnt out, adds a dreamy feeling to this beautiful interior. Link to comment
