Early Spring

Its wonderful to see this one again. The more I look at it, the more I truly love the lightness and the whispy contrast, particularly in the buildings. The balance of the composition is superb.

Bravo retouch. I don't really pay much attention to public parks in this part of the world. Guess I should change my idea.

Although I do not have time at the moment, I did have to comment on this photo. I am quite often in China and one thing I really love there is the peaceful atmosphere of all the parks and Chinese gardens. You managed to capture exactly this feeling. Thank you for reminding me of some wonderful hours I spend at places like this.

One idea about the composition: I am not sure but maybe the photo would be even more balanced if you cropped off the left tree and a little bit of the white area at the bottom. But maybe it is better the way it is. If you try it, please tell me what you think. Overall I can only repeat that this is wonderful work.

Everyone for the kind comments. This image started life in mute tones so the conversion seemed to high contrast B&W was easy. The morning was very still which also helped keep the water motionless.

 

Antony, I did try your crop of removing the rock on the left, but I feel somehow the left side was off balance. Having the rock there seems to anchor and balance the overall image better. Thank you so much for taking the time to offer your suggestions.

And yes, this part of the world, especially very early mornings have a special kind of magic.

Finally, I could not stand the temptation to try cropping it on my own. This does not mean that I do not trust your decision but I was just curious how it is going to look like. I am not really sure which version is better. Therefore you should probably just keep yours.

 

BTW, is this the summer palace? I was in Beijing only once without really having time to enjoy this wonderful city.

Hi Antony, your crop is interesting, it has somehow brought the whole image forward, the center building takes on a different look. Interesing.....I will take it to PS and study your version.

 

No this was not Summer Palace. Its actually a local garden in the center of Beijing (15 minutes away from Grand Hyatt) I try to go there most times I travel to Beijing, as all the elements are there. But the draw back with shots of calm is ofcourse to get out of bed really early, getting there by 6.30 is already late!

I will be back for your next photo from this place. Maybe I should also upload some more pictures from China to promote this fascinating country a bit more. At the moment I only uploaded some IR pictures from there. Maybe I have got some time for that starting from mid August.
