jmoody 0 Posted October 8, 2004 or Dali'. Either way, very cool portait! (light, tones, textures, interest... this has it all) Link to comment
theokeijzers 0 Posted October 9, 2004 Thank you for the nice replies, I'm very happy with this picture, good to see this reflected in your remarks. Question, is it possible to see who is behind the ratings? One person rated this 1/1, without telling why. Looks personal, but I don't know why. Link to comment
jmoody 0 Posted October 9, 2004 not me. I've got a bad habit of commenting and not rating. (6+'s if I had to though) Link to comment
theokeijzers 0 Posted October 10, 2004 Thanks Jeff. I agree, ratings are not all that important, most of the time i only give comment too, but when somebody give a 1/1, it's only fair to tell why, so I can understand it. Link to comment
Doug Keller 0 Posted October 31, 2004 Nice shot. Great character. The impression is that he's a bit of a scoundrel... and has developed a knack for being two-faced... for putting his best face forward, so to speak. The shadowy right-half of his face points this up nicely... but, to accentuate it, have you considered blackening out the white dot in the eye? Just a thought... to complete a great portrait. Also, have you considered rotating the image a bit?... to further present the crookedness theme? He's already tilting a little. Not sure. Link to comment
theokeijzers 0 Posted October 31, 2004 Thanks Douglas for your comments. I have tried a lot with this picture, but never thought of removing the white dot in his eye. I will give it a try. My English is not the best in the world, so i'm curious what scoundrel means... Any way, Jan is no longer with us, due to his way of life he died much too young. I have another picture of him, I will upload that one of these days. Link to comment
Doug Keller 0 Posted November 1, 2004 Well, a "scoundrel" breaks the rules in order to succeed in life. I was thinking of a favorite movie of mine called "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." Here's a link to a description of it if you're interested... maybe you've already seen it: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0095031/. Link to comment
g1 0 Posted December 8, 2004 I thought of Dali straight away. What a strong portrait. Great angle, details & exposure for starters, but the really outstanding element is that you captured some intimate part of his soul here. Must be that gaze, & although it is very direct and intense, it is also connected to the photographer/viewer, perhaps even a trace of a wry smile in the sparkle of his eyes. Link to comment
