Winter Sunrise at Mesa Arch

chris_conrad

Velvia (just because I was out of VS and I borrowed some Velvia from a friend) at F22 for about 1/4 second. I also have a few sunburst shots that were exposed just prior to this--about 10' to the left of this position. cc

I just started printing this with Epson UltraChrome inks and it

revived my love of this image. My goal on this morning was to get

the whole arch with a sunburst in the right corner. I got that and

then quickly shifted about 10' right to get all glow and no

sunburst. Please let me know what you think. cc

I like the glow of the rising sun. The sky occupies too much space. The composition could be better, too.I don't know if it was possible to step further to the arc. Part of the sky and, unfortunately, of the arc would have been lost then, but resulting in a stronger composition.

This is a different than my photo of Mesa Arch (see my folder), but I like it a lot. In the SW (and anywhere as far as that goes), you sometimes have to be at the right place at the right time. The angle of the sun changes year round. You might be able to get the shot you want now or you might have to wait a few months. Such is the plight of the outdoor photographer. Nice work though.
