doctorbabaguy 0 Posted August 11, 2004 Some laborers are as young as 12 or 13 years old. Each dig up the soil to fill the cart and haul it for nearly half a mile along the island, over the bamboo bridge, then up a sharp slope to the processing area, empty the cart, and return to the digging area. They do this from 5:30 in the morning until 9:00, then they rest for an hour, resume and continue until lunch at noon. They are paid according to the number of carts they deliver and the weight they can haul per trip. Only men or boys are employed in this activity. Link to comment
arond a. 0 Posted August 11, 2004 I like the repetition of the three figures all performing the same action. The structure of the bridge and the framing all make for an interesting image. Link to comment
rapo 0 Posted August 11, 2004 Good shot, lot of qualities. I just feel something unconfortable with the composition, probably because it gives more importance to the bridge than to the figures. I don't really like either the bamboo on the foreground, just in front of the last man. Very power full image anyway, congrats, Philippe Link to comment
doctorbabaguy 0 Posted August 11, 2004 Philippe,I agree! I was kicking myself later for not moving a few feet to the right to get the first bamboo out of the way...I was trying to balance the large empty space occupied by the bridge in front of the fugures but the overlap with the last man is just too distracting. I was debating whether to catch the man past it, but decided against that because he would have covered the chimney in the background. Well...not debating conciously but the thought fleetingly went through my mind as I squeezed the shutter. Thanks for your comments! Link to comment
dumpster001 1 Posted September 10, 2004 the inclusion of the bamboo pole is not such a bad thing. it gives a clearer sense of scale and depth. Link to comment
goutam_mitra1 0 Posted September 29, 2004 I agree with Balaji. The bamboo gives a sense of prespective and distance guiding the eye smoothly along the bridge. Very well done! Link to comment
