Ghetto Fabulous is a series that I am working on. I live in the city

of Detroit and I am a student here. There is no better place to

shoot urban decay. Here is one gawdy example of the stuff you can

see in Detroit.

Please critique... be kind... I am a student majoring photography...

I've only been doing this a couple of years now.

Thank you.

Supposing the boarded windows are actually those colours I find this a fine example of hypocrisy. Why go to the trouble of dressing up a building that either no one wants or no one is allowed to want? In this economy it gives window dressing a whole new meaning. Great photo ...love to see more.(6/6)

It is interesting photo. It looks fake, but also it is bold and expressive. I like it, it reminded me movies of Sergej Parajanov

I find this to be quite beautiful. This could start a new trend in home decoration. The colours happify the house.

... your beggining serie about urban decay is an interesting concept and a vast theme. I hope to see more here. An advise: I know that the urban decay is your main point now, but, look at your subjects in a wider way. In this building you can find several fractional (or detail) interesting pictures. an example is the diamond-like window with the doves in the inclined roof... and maybe including part of the blue and green windows. The possibilities are endless. Study your subject. Analize it in its parts. Bisect it, and you'll get interesting things. Luck in your inside search.

I agree with Osvaldo.

On the technical note I think the colors are bit over saturated and framing is too tight. Poeple like colors but over staurating is not the answer. This house has so much color compare to its surronding and if you keep the nastural colors there you are going to make a bigger statement that over working it in photoshop.

If I had to choose between more forground or more sky I would've gone with more sky for sure to compliment the shape of building instead of cramping it in the frame! I like the idea however. A wider angle lens could be useful here as well. Since you are using Canon 20D then I guess anything under 17mm should do it. For a film camera a 24mm would be more than enough.

If you prefer to keep the scale as true as possible then a 35mm with your camera is a good choice but then you need to take the shot on a small ladder or small step to help you with your framing.

Best of lcuk.

Well-seen and nicely composed. The high contrast blows out the highlights a little in the upper left-hand corner of the building but that isn't a problem because high-contrast helps pop the window colors. Lowering the contrast might be more realistic, but that would be a different photo. Good shot.
