"The Guardian," in Relief

This is a variation on the same image in my Smoke as Art folder. The

relief effect was done with a custom filter. The original image is

incense smoke. The colors are as captured.

I love these abstracts. You must have over ten thousand of them by now.

I usually shoot from 150-250 shots at a time when shooting smoke. If I get ten good ones I am happy. One or two really good ones is all that I expect.

 

I have probably have around 6,000 of these in total.

 

I'd rather be out shooting lightning, but the Monsoon Season has been a fizzle so far this year. Tramping the desert at 110 degrees is not my idea of fun either. So... more smoke shots...

Dave, I love your smoke pictures, I will try them one day. How do achieve the black background? Thanks Jana

The Black Background is obtained by using a black cloth about 8 feet behind the subject and using a single, shielded strobe aimed straight up.
