This might have been considered a controversial image back in the

1970's, but times change and so do people's preoccupations. I thought

I would post it though, to see it might evoke some interest in the

allusions or issues that are being referred to in a purely symbolic

manner.

That's an interesting observation, different than the associations I had thought about. I was really thinking along more benign lines in creating the image, i.e the Nixon Medallion represents the Establishment, the opium pipe the "Counter Culture", and the plant the "protect the natural environment" movement.

oooh, I like that. It's also interesting that the fabric you used as a backdrop appears to be denim... the staple of American culture...

Interesting observation about the fabric, as denim "bell bottoms" were one of the symbols of the hippie movement, and were popular to wear at the same time that Nixon was President. Nixon, of course, was considered to represent the antithesis of the hippie movement. I had not considered the association of the fabric's type with political conflict (Nixon versus the Hippies) until you posted your comment.
