We were traveling along the campsite in Yosemite Village and chanced

upon this little girl playing in the fireside. The smoke exude a

nice ray of light in the bright sunshine and couldn't resist taking

this image before she dashed out of sight to daddy. Everything's

cool and we had a nice chat with her father and had some beer too!

Sure Loft. We are buddies and went together for three weeks shooting California, Arizona and Utah. So some images may appear similar but if you compare them side by side it will be different as we use different lenses. I try not to use the similar images but sometimes it happens as he lives in LA and I in Singapore. Hope this clarifies.

Two photographers together- on two different vacations...I know how this works! Great trip for you both...many great images!

No Michele, I'm not angry, look at the other thread and you'll know Bob and I traveled together. My shot was taken first before the girl ran away. Bob's was better composed as she came back again after meeting her father. Take a look at all the 'new submissions' before making a decision on the quality of Canon vs Nikon from both Bob's and my photonet site. More to come, hopefully not close duplicates. Heheheh

Let me chip in here. Both shots were made exactly at the same time, so they both look identical except for maybe the smoke and fire, the position of the little girl, and the cropping of course.

I/we try to submit different images (and most of the time we tried to separate and shoot different things) - like our shots of Antelope Canyon, but it so happened that we were both here at this scene together and it's hard for any one of us to give up the opportunity to shoot this pretty picture.

I don't think you can come to any conclusions about the Canon and Nikon just by looking at our images, even though they were taken at the same time, as both of us did some post-processing (color enhancement) so what you see is not what comes right off the camera. Both the 10D and D70 are very fine and capable cameras and they both have their own strengths.

I apologise if anyone thought that one of us had stolen the other person's image!

It's interesting to see how each of you processed your images prior to upload. Yours is darker and, to my eye, has more 'curb appeal', but I like Bob's better on closer inspection because of the shadow detail. For both images, I think some careful work in curves and some dodging and burning would get the best results.

I hope dad will be getting a print in the mail.

I was particulary attracted to light rays...but i find that the bench and its suffounding seem slighty darker than they should be..As for the placing of the bench or table they are great..

Well done

Alec, this one hits home. Love it. For tonal distribution, you may want to try another approach, histogram shifting to bring out the texture of darker zone.

It's a beautiful shot, Alec. I love the way the sun rays are coming through and the wider angle view than your friend's has. It would have been a cool shot without the little girl, too.

Hey Bob ...
I was joking
! Ok?

Great capture Alec! The light is fantastic. Very nice and original. I would prefer it without the frame, but vit is only my opinion. Congrats as usual!

This one is nicer in terms of capturing the mood of a natural scene, the other better in terms of the close-up of the little girl.

Thanks everyone for making this an interesting discussion. Sometimes we jump into conclusion too fast when we see a similar image somewhere else. Perhaps it's time to contemplate before being too hasty to find fault? No pun intended as I also feel it's great there are so many members with sharp eyes in photonet. Abuse team can rest easy.

Special thanks to Ray for the advise on using histogram shifting. I'm still trying to experiment with software to see which can provide the best results. I'm getting there but like all purists I try to do as little as possible.
