A chance meeting with a fellow photographer at Mono Lake during a shoot.

The evening light and scenery was just great for this portrait. We had some

excellent shots there as well.

Alec, this is one of the better shots I've looked at in a while. Well done...Only pick...I haven't been there yet.....I don't hand out too many 7's...this one deserves it. Not much if anything wrong....

I was wondering where you had been, haven't seen anything from you in a while. This is very nice. Good composition, color, clarity, and lighting. From what I'm seeing the D70 produce, you should be really pleased with it :)

I know that this is not the kind of profound critique we are here looking for. But I can't refrain from uttering it!

Dennis, Didi, many thanks for your comments and ratings. Geo Sun, of course will love to have your company wherever possible. Perhaps next time you come to Asia you can contact me?

Roberto, Aivar, the D70 is as good as every one says. perhaps even better! Excellent controls even similar to top DSLRs. Very simlar with the D10 which my friend took with him on the trip.

Alberto Conde - it's an honor coming from you.

Tony G. Yes, if you wish to have anothe besides the F717 - get the D70. You'll love it.

Welcome back, Alec. We'll be looking forward to see more from your trip. In the mean time, your friend here should be very happy with this once he sees it (and the bird)!

how's the D70 and moisture? The only reason I haven't retired my D1 is afraid the D100 and D70 didn't have the water resistant seals the big D series has...

Another question...how's the dusty ccd problem - my only whine about digital...

Apologise for not replying sooner. I just got back to Singapore from nearly a day in airports and planes. Again, thanks everyone for your gracious comments. Wilson, I still have lots of great images to download. Howard, thanks I am fine and survived the desert heat in Slot Canyon and Horseshoe Bend in Lake Powell.

Dennis, the D70 really works well for me. Not much problem with dust on the CCD, perhaps it's because I'm using one lens only at that time. It's quite complicated but once you get the hang of it the controls are superb. Check out the review from Ken Rockwell who is full of preaises for the D70. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d70.htm

Pedro, Chris, Michael, Sarah, Maris, Wilson, Howard, Conrad I will check out your sites tomorrow. Again thanks for the rating guys.

Alec - I was online last night and stumbled upon this (haven't had a chance to keep up much lately, as I've been traveling). I loved this image so much, after shutting down the computer, I got out some maps of California and Nevada and looked for Mono Lake. I'm going to be in Carson City, NV tonight through next weekend. After seeing this, I've decided to ditch my family for at least a day and try to get down to Mono Lake (looks like it might just be a couple of hours drive from Carson City). This is a delightful image. Glad that you enjoyed the Western US. I was in Las Vegas for the 4th of July. We may even have crossed paths and not realized it. Warm regards!!

Lou, I'm sure you'll like Mono lake but try to be there for the sunset and twilight when the light is better. If you have time go to Bodie State Historic Park as well. It is quite near Mono Lake.

Well we could have met in Las Vegas earlier this month and perhaps get some mocca from Starbucks. (",) Nice talking.

Hi again, Alec. Sorry we missed that cup of coffee in Vegas earlier in the month. I am currently in Carson City (northern Nevada), but have found myself without time to get down the road to Mono Lake. Well ... I could go, but don't want to try to see all that I'd want to see in just a couple of hours. I'll wait someday and spend a whole week at Yosemite and Mono and that area. I'll be back online more regularly soon!! Regards!!
