davidmccracken 2 Posted July 8, 2004 I really am looking for constructive criticism on this! (Sometimes we don't get what we want!) I posted a 'washed' out version of this earlier in the week! The comments made there were helpful. This is the photo as it was taken. Link to comment
owen_omeara 1 Posted July 8, 2004 David; As portraits go, as you say, I like it. It is interesting that her left eye seens to move further to the right than her right eye. This is common in a lot of people but can distract in some cases. I would not have her look so strongly in that direction in the future and I think you can solve the problem with minimal effort. I notice things like that because of my day time profession and other viewers may not even see it. In any event I think it is a strong image in every other regard and does look better than the previous example. -Cheers; Owen Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted July 8, 2004 I think the truth is Owen, she didn't want to look at me! I didn't ask her to look at anything! I think the trick of a good photograph when you are working with people you have just met is to get them to react to the camera! I failed miserably in getting this girl to perform, however I did think this was an interesting image! As always Owen! Your thoughts and observations are appreciated! Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted July 11, 2004 The Partially Toned version received 17 Ratings averaging 4.88 / 4.88 before I deleted it! Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted July 14, 2004 First, thanks for the kind words about my work. It is very much appreciated. I don't have a lot of time. I will come back to your other images at another time. Now to this image. I don't get the low ratings and I don't get some of the nit pick stuff. All and all this is a good portrait. You know why and I know why. The subject's pose and expression, and the colors make the image work. I would frame different that's all. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted July 14, 2004 Framing it different is fine! However..... we need some originality! Thanks for looking! Link to comment
jeff_oxford 0 Posted July 16, 2004 I can not decide if I like this one or the partially toned one better (not the bw though). I really like the since deleted partially toned one though. This is probably one of my favorite photos on PN. It is strikingly reminiscent to a powerful scene in a Japanese Pop artist's music video-Utada Hikaru "first love". Link to comment
jeff_oxford 0 Posted July 16, 2004 2nd comment. As I was looking at the different versions, I think I realize what I like best about the partially toned photo. As I look at the BW and the full color...there seems to be no particular reason for BW or full color (besides photographers own choice which is perfectly fine). What I really like about the partially toned photo is the fact that it is between color and BW, much like the position of this girl. I think of BW as the death of color, and full color the antihesis of BW. I see the woman in the photo as in the process falling to the ground (perhaps a bias because of the video I previously mentioned), kind of like a drunken passing out state-leaving awareness and soberness (represented by full color) and passing to an unconcious state (represented by BW) on the floor. The partially toned photo is like the intermediary state, much as is the position of this girl. I think that is why I like the partially toned best. Full color evokes more of the girl's beauty for me, Partially toned evokes more emotion/imagination for me. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted July 17, 2004 I am not sure I can really respond to your comment fully! You have taken time to look at this and I understand what you are saying. As for the video you mention, I have not seen it. However, I think I have the song on a mini disk somewhere! Thanks for stopping by! Link to comment
