The Argument

mplonsky

I was trying to photograph the lady against with the purple flower background when the ant came in and starting arguing. I assume they were arguing over an aphid. The ants farm them and the ladies eat them.

A composite of 2 images in an effor to increase DOF.

Since macros are about details, I encourage viewing at the larger size.

Thanx for the feedback and suggestion. I had tried it when preparing the photo, but was unhappy with the way the lighting came out. Having such strong light come from underneath seemed too unnatural.

I love the lighting, it's well balanced, a great image. Are you finding that the Canon Rebel gives you faster and more accurate focusing than the G3?

Excellent macro. VERY original and you were very lucky to capture the moment. Great contrast and colurs and DOF. When you feel like it have a look at my insects folder. THink you will enjoy them as much as I did yours

This is insane, how good can you possibly get really? It?s hardly fair towards those like me who desperatly try to do macro work but don?t come close. Anyway I have been following your work from afar, seething with jealosuy and it?s all pretty much perfect but this shot, it?s just amazing. Congrats, easy a 7/7 and possibly more if the voting system would allow it.

Just one question since I own similar equipment. What precisely are you using to get these shots. I have a tripod, 10D, 105mm Macro Sigma and a slave flash setup for lighting so what is missing in this formula besides from skill? Any tips would be very helpful.

Never a bad one Mark. Another winner here, great story too. These accidents are in reality brief *opportunities* which we as photographers live for! 6/7

Mark, excellent work as usual. Question: I'm curious how 2 images would improve DOF if you care to explain. I don't actually see the need for more. Thanks.

Great colors and lighting and very interesting composition - something you don't see that often! I like the topsy-turvy look to this - makes it even more interesting.
