johncrosley 0 Posted August 26, 2004 My conclusion: For artistic reasons, I cut off the tops for artistic reasons, to draw focus onto the face for the most part, and to aid composition. You're only the second person in my life who has made such a comment, but I will take it to heart, and now I am much more aware of it. I have no such tendency in non-close-up shots where the background is out of focus, say in circles of confusion and the attention is drawn to the subject's face. It appears in my mind as a compositor to be a means of drawing focus to the essential portion of the image -- did you know we have a central portion of the brain devoted to recognizing faces -- but only those that are right side up, and the hair doesn't matter? Thanks for your very helpful comment here -- it has caused me to think and alter my shooting, and your other comments throughout. John. Link to comment
gemccaw 1 Posted August 29, 2004 Another keeper. I like the repetition of forms: bread/head; neatly arranged bags. I also like the complementary color composition of green and amber. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted August 29, 2004 I needed that 'schlap' in my artistic face to wake me up. ;~) John Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted August 29, 2004 Head, bread. Repetition. Complementary colors -- amber and green. You have taught me analysis of my own photo. I long for the ability to explain the composition and success and/or failure of photos and you, in a few words, did just that very elegantly. I came back for a second look at your comment and found it to be most profoundly and succinctly stated. It's one of the best all-time succinct and accurate composition comments I have received. Kudos for your commentary. Regards and thanks. John. Link to comment
elly1664876496 0 Posted September 11, 2004 Hi John, yes, I think this is a keeper too - makes me think of something 1950's looking - the colours and the simple pleasure on his face. Wonderful character in that face too - congrats! Ellen Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted September 11, 2004 I spent 2 weeks in Europe on other matters but took a camera and came back with wonderful images -- too many to post for critique and many I didn't know what to do with, but I wanted to share. Thanks for helping me figure out what to do with this one. And thanks for stopping by. You are always most welcome in my portfolio and folders. John. Link to comment
