Spectacular and very unusual sunset with many features.

Spectacular and very unusual sunset with many features : a 22 degrees radius circular halo, Sundogs (parhelia, mock suns), Upper tangent arcs and a long Upper sun pillars. This is the most beautiful solar halos that I have observed! I was lucky to have my camera ready.

Gaetan, je suis d'accord avec vous: c'est decidement une des plus originales photos de coucher de soleil que j'ai jamais vu!

Wonderful colors and presentation of cloud formations within the sky. Gleam from setting sun creates nice effect. Good eye.

Gaetan, this is an amazing capture! Never knew there's such combination. I guess I'll have to be on the look out for these small nuances from now on.

Remarkable shot. Why do the phenomena happen? Is it something to do with ice crystals in the upper atmosphere?

There is something really exquisite about this sunset... not sure but it might be those meteorological phenomena that you mention... sometime in the morning I will follow your link... ;) Thanks!!! (isn't nature cool...)

Too much technical phenomena talk for me to understand, but your end result is very nice. I'm glad you had your camera with you.

Gaetan, I share your interest in astronomy (but not actively at present due to city living). I also have an interest in meteorology which connects with my work in tidal flood forecasting. Coming back to your shot - I guess these phenomena must have disappeared a few minutes later. Were you preparing to shoot this sunset anyway or did you see it and grab the camera?

Interesting to see that you have an interest in astronomy and meteorology. I am a system analyst implementing and oracle system for the government. The evening that this shot was taken I had made macro photos of flowers and I noticed this great sky at my return at home. As you said usually these kind of phenomena last only a few minutes. I lost about 5 minutes to spot a place to take shots with a clear horizon. The phenomena was dimmer but still continue to evoluate more that I have anticipated and did not disapeared until the sunset. So very long in duration and the shot show the maximum stage. I was not prepared to shoot this sunset. Since I had my camera in my car I had to find a good spot and take the shot.

Often, I have my camera with me and take shots that are not prepared or planified.
