gaetanchevalier 5 Posted June 29, 2004 Very special sunset with smal and quite unusual iridescent clouds at the top. Link to comment
jussi.jylkka 0 Posted June 29, 2004 The black cloud makes it different from usual sunset photos. I hope it is not a cloud of grasshoppers! Some kind of a city skyline in the horizon might show the scale better. Link to comment
gaetanchevalier 5 Posted June 29, 2004 The sun is not set in this photo. It is behind the 'black' cloud. I used spot metering to be able to record the special clouds at the top of the photo. Link to comment
jussi.jylkka 0 Posted June 30, 2004 Oh, of course. But I wonder how the clouds nearmost the horizon can be so orange wihthout the usual low sun that colours them, do the upper clouds filter the light? Or is it just that you don?t see the colour when it?s too bright... Link to comment
gaetanchevalier 5 Posted July 1, 2004 You have a question thatit is difficult for me to answer. The clouds nearmost the horizon are orange because the sun in not near the horizon, it is behind that 'dark' cloud. I have chosen spot metering to take that photo to try to get a better look at the upper portion clouds of this photo. I think that the upper clouds do 'filter' the light of the sun, and the sun is still very bright at this altitude. I think that both factors have a role in regard of the colors. Also I think that the altitude of clouds does matter in the colors they take near sunset. Also you are looking at a sky that gave birth to a thunderstorm. It is all I know, hope that this can help a little. I am not an expert in optical phenomena in the sky. Link to comment
philippe_gasser 0 Posted July 1, 2004 Don't know... What should I see here? I can't find something to rest my eyes. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted July 8, 2004 I've seen very similar skies here in Texas - nice that you were able to capture the "special" clouds at the top. Link to comment
