geri 0 Posted June 29, 2004 I was waiting for my comp to bring this in focus. LOL! Well, I'm not going to plug in a rating, because I'm not a Photographer, and sometimes I think I may be missing something. I don't believe that all pictures have to be "crystal clear"; some of the most thought provoking or simply exquisite photos I've seen were just the opposite. But here, there seems to be a missing element. I say that because aside from that deep red of the person's garment, I only see the darkness of the other's garb, and then, just neutral sand. But, there is nothing else here for me to latch on to, (and before anyone offers me up to be burned at the stake, I *did* say "for me"). Now, here's where I fail in my critique, which is why I'm only commenting, but leaving no "mark". I can't offer you advice on what could have been done with lenses, or film, or equipment... But maybe a Photographer will jump in and say something quite helpful. Only thing I could add as a non-professional is that if this had some kind of emotional impact, or even some kind of visual contrast to keep the viewer's gaze, it would be more effective. Hope you don't mind my say-so. :) Link to comment
adrianhinojosa 0 Posted July 11, 2004 Without looking at the title, I knew this was a 'surfboard' and shot at the beach and if there was just one person and the surfboard, I think that is what would make this image more succesfull and dramatic. With two people, this image is to 'complicated'. The eye can't settle on one subject and the viewer ends up switching attention back and forth between the two people which is distracting enough to kill the dramatic impact of being out of focus. I think its still good and want to add that there is a lot of 'surfing' literature and I think it would be an excellent concept for a book cover. Link to comment
marina-cano 0 Posted July 11, 2004 Adrian, estoy impresionada con tu increible critica constructiva. No solo en esta foto, sino en el interes que te has tomado en toda mi galeria. Te la has recorrido completa. Gracias de corazon. Link to comment
therese kleger 0 Posted January 22, 2008 Hi Marina, I was just browsing through your portfolio to cheer me up on a cold winter day, and I just had to put in a comment on this shot because I really like it. I got that it was surfers right away and I like the relaxed, dreamy quality. It works for me! I would hang this on my wall in a second. Keep up the amazing work! Link to comment
