A young runner at the 2004 YAI/NIPD Central Park Challenge. YAI helps

children and their families who are suffering from mental and

developmental disabilities beome independent and reach their full

potential. Each year they hold a number of events aimed at awareness

and the rasing of funds which are then used to provide the services

and special programs these individuals need to experience the most

basic things we take for granted and at the same time fosters self

pride and confidence. I donate my time and resources to help in

numerous ways and have donated the photos in this folder for their

use. If you or anyone you know could benefit from these programs

visit www.yai.org . I was even thinking of teaching photography to

help some of these children learn the joy of creating and to help

bolster their pride in ones self. I will let you all know how it

turns out. -N

Very cool photo - and great cause! Did you ever get anywhere with your ambitions of photography teaching? I'd really like to see that documentary "Born Into Brothels" as the filmmakers use a similar theory to help kids in dire situations. If you haven't seen it already, maybe you'd be interested - it may inspire you!

What I like most about this photo believe it or not is what is happening in the background. The intensity of the spectators it what moved me more than anything and to be honest... I didn't realize that until editing and reviewing the shot.

Derek - As far as the documentary, I will look it up. Thanks for stopping by and your kind words of encouragement.

Many, many moons ago I suggested on the cropped version of this photo, that if you had the shot with the runner's whole body, legs and feet, it may be good to create an out-of-frame style picture. It's been a long time and things have moved on in leaps and bounds. I ask, if you are willing, would you email me your original(jpeg from camera) of this photo, so I can produce such a picture for you. Of course, now I have reminded you, it may be something you want to try for yourself. Let me know.

That's pretty cool! I don't think I have ever seen something like that before. I will give it a shot if I can find the image. I have no problem sending you the file but I don't think I have the original anymore. It was shot RAW and I usually delete them after processing the image to a TIFF. I will look for that as well.

Thanks for stopping by and again.. great idea.
