california-seascapes-photo 0 Posted June 25, 2004 Thanks Jen, recently I finally sat down and spent some time going through my past slides looking for the ones I missed and also the ones I couldnt get a good scan out of with my previous scanner. Link to comment
stevemarcus 0 Posted June 25, 2004 Yet another very beautiful seascape from you, Steven! I really like the sky colors and the way you were able to capture the rays of sun, which is not easy to do. Very nice! Link to comment
bartbies 71 Posted June 25, 2004 i think that is little to more shuter time, maybe 1/3 ev to more, maybe my monitor ... Link to comment

california-seascapes-photo 0 Posted June 26, 2004 Thanks Steve, After BarBart's comment I played with the brightness a few times trying to lighten it up. I ended up re-scanning this and starting over aproaching this in a different manner to see if I can get some detail out of the big rock. There is detail in the scan, its just a matter of retaining it througout the edit, adjusting contrast, etc.. I will upload soon. Thanks BarBart and everyone else. Link to comment
california-seascapes-photo 0 Posted June 26, 2004 I did some re-editing and still having some problems retaining the detail, but the rocks should be a bit brighter. Link to comment
rajeevthomas 1 Posted June 27, 2004 I love this one..though the clouds motion is captured because of the slow shutter speed..there is a painting effect because of that...rich saturated colors are so great!!! Link to comment
manolis1 0 Posted June 28, 2004 Steven,I like the first one (the original),which looks "Real". Link to comment
california-seascapes-photo 0 Posted June 28, 2004 On my monitor I also prefer the original. I believe my monitor tends to be brighter than most, so the updated version was an attempt at brightening it further for other viewers. I just got back from dropping both off to be printed which will be the true test. Thank you everyone for the comments. Link to comment
the lone ranger 0 Posted June 28, 2004 I think your pictures are great. I have a question though. How is it that you managed to have such a light foreground and perfectly exposed sky using only a 2 stop soft grad? For this scene with the sun in the frame perfectly exposed, it looks like it would take about 10 stops to get the foreground that light. I stack 5 sometimes for scenes like this and it still isn't enough. I'm curious about the technique. I would surely use it. Link to comment
california-seascapes-photo 0 Posted June 28, 2004 Hi Richard, this was taken quite a while ago so it is possible I used a 3 stop with this one and after this long a time span I can only guess which ND filter I actually used. I do know it wasnt more than that because at the time of shooting this aprox. 15 months ago, the thought of stacking filters wouldnt of crossed my mind. I also did various dodging and burning in PS, but not much with the foreground, moreso with darkening the sky. I find that sometimes when the sun is somewhat behind the clouds such as this, I can get away with less ND, but your right it was most likely 3 stops used here and not sure why I chose to place it as 2 above.
