Magical lighting here Steven, with beautiful golden tones. Your composition here with the sun off-center works very well in my opinion as well. Catching the waves at an angle that mimicks the rock formation is also very good. My only suggestions here would be to have hoped for a little more distinct wave formation with more definition...perhaps just as it is breaking to really balance that upper-left portion of the image. There is some action happening but just not quite enough for the needed balance...(perhaps brightening it up some might even help). Also there is just a tad more flare than we'd probably like to have...only a bit more, perhaps just a little more cloning. These are really minor suggestions for what their worth. This is still an excellent capture even as is!

I think some flare may be desirable in many seascape shots. How much is desirable is still somewhat unknown by me and maybe somewhat personal preference, but I did just clone out a few streaks and highlights that I left in to see if others would find distracting and apparently they were.(: In the past I used to consider any flare undesireable and probably threw out a few that I maybe shouldnt have. (:

As far as the wave goes, I agree this would be improved if I would have caught this while the wave was cresting. I do remember taking quite a few this day, I will have to search for those to see if I can find one with a better wave formation, but I feel comfortable with this version for now. I will also try it in print this week and see how that goes?

I brightened this a bit as well.

Thanks Vincent and everyone else for the great comments.

Wow, this one is great! Great sky with great detail at the foreground. The composition is great too, excellent job !

Why don't my sunsets look like this? It's just not fair!

But seriously, I really enjoy this one. The diagonal composition of rocks leads me right into that magnificient setting star. I understand about the flair; it is a difficult decision, but I would tend to minimize as much as possible. Regards.

Steven, The angle that takes you into the photo, and the scene, makes me want to stand there.... it is very appealing! Pnina

Hi Steve- I didn't do any adjustments on the foreground with this. After Vincent's comment I did some cloning around the sun to remove a couple streaks and a few small sun-spots below the sun and I may still clone out slightly more, but am undecided.

Hi Walter, The more I look at this the more I think I am leaning back to having as little flare as possible in my photos as well, giving a cleaner image. Thanks for the input guys, I still have plenty to learn.

We all have much to keep learning Steven! I do like this brighter version. The water in the upper left does have more detail to simply balance the image a little more. If only you have one with the waves breaking!! All right I know...cant ask for perfection can we? This is pretty close just as is. Aloha.

Hi Steve dont be so hard on yourself, this shot is as close to perfection as it gets. What is perfection? The only reason this is not perfection to me is that I didnt take it! IMHO this is as aesthetically pleasing as it gets on photonet .

This great light is what ocean photogrpahy is all about for me Steve. Splendid execution. I agree with Vince that a cresting wave might have been nice, as might some more of the aqua rather than foaming white showing in the water, but they would be variations on a theme; this rendition is very nice as is too.

I like how you consistently get great results from the Southern California beaches. I grew up in S. CA but typically avoid the beaches down there in favor of ones further north. You're giving me reason to want to shoot down there.

Although slower shutter speeds at the beech is a well used technique, the results never seem to get old. I like the warm colors of this ambitious shot, focusing directly into the sun. Nice shot.

Steven,

This is a great shot...!!! Perfection...sometimes means "you are not going get anything done!!" This is so perfect for so many out there including myself! How do you scan all your pictures?? All are drum scanned?? Just curious..as usual you have done very well and keep shooting!
