Very, very nice. This really works for me. I love the cascading look and feel to the pine needles as they sweep down over the trunk toward the bottom of the frame. The strong lines suggested by both the trunk and the branches does a wonderful job adding structure to the scene. Good eye.

Phil, this one looked tremendous in the thumbnail -- almost abstract. It's a good composition. In the larger size though, it doesn't quite deliver on expectations. I think it's probably down to the jpg failing to resolve the leaves where I'd anticipated fractal-like detail. Is the detail there on film, or did the wind blur the leaves?

Hi Leigh,

I blame the inability of the net to resolve fine detail. Below is the full frame with a square I've overlayed. The overlayed square appears beneath it, blown up to 100% magnification (scanned at 1600 ppi with an Epson 2450). It loses some again since I've made the file size of the inline pic only 60Kb (which rates as 03 quality in PS's "Save For Web" function).

I'm relieved that the detail is all there. A large print would look wonderful.

If your 2450 is anything like my Epson 3200, though, this one deserves a drum scan, or at least a drive to a friend with an Imacon...
