The Achilles' heel of an F1 pitstop

Interesting shot, highly original, again for F1 fans this would immediately recognizable. It would not look out of place on a wall displaying a number of F1 pictures. I think it would create an interesting talking point. I like this close up better than the larger portrait version.

It's a sad state of affairs when the FIA and Max Mosley have to step

in and impose drastic and rediculous rule changes that in essence

change the sport itself.

 

For thise who do not know what I am talking about, I am referring to

the sport of Grand Prix racing (Formula One) and the new rule changes

for this season one of which is no tire changes over the duration of a

race weekend.

 

The photo above is of the air wrenches in the Ferrari pit lane that

are used in a to remove all four of the cars tires when a driver

brings in his car durring a race. The durration of these stops

sometimes either make or break the chances for a win by allowing the

team to remove and re-mount new tires in less than 5 seconds so their

driver can rejoin the race and hopefully take home the victory. If

one fails, it can be devestating.

 

Anyway, you don't see these all the time and when in the pitlane at

Montreal I thought it would make a nice photo.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I haven't been to a race in almsot a year because I started a business which commands the bulk of my free time these days. I am supposed to head to the Canadian GP again this year but everything is up in the air at the moment and with the weather warming up, I am really looking forward to attending a lot of PCA events, historic events, and even air shows... so who knows what opportunities will arise.

 

As far as originality for teh image goes.. I am not a pro, just a guy with a camera looking for something that the average guy with a camera will not take... If pros have taken images like this in the past, then I consider myself to be on the right track as far as subject matter and only hope to develop my skills and grow with my hobby.

Just some thoughts to add... As a working motorsport photographer I am always under pressure to look for something just that little bit different. Yes, I have to produce the standard stuff that will either sell to drivers, teams or magazine editors, but I also have to develop a vision that is different to the guys I work with and different from one meeting to another. This is hard for me because I do most of my work at a single circuit and that circuit also happens to be an oval...

 

There are certain cliches in motor racing photography and the shot you've posted is one of them. IMHO Fred is right with his analysis and I agree with him completely.

My first look at the thumbnail and I thought it was a photo of 2 formula 1 race cars. A nice shot that mimics what the nozzles are used for.

I will already go you showing but you photograph of the gp 05 of spain. for the time being conform to with this. and the picture of the guns of air is not new. but it is very good and very original. a greeting norman

Beautiful shot of the brakes!!! I am booked for Montreal again... Can't wait. Will have a longer lens this time around.
