The neighborhood watch repairman. I sent my watch for repair and he

look so contented in his shop at the neighborhood mall that I had to

take this shot. I will give a print to him when I collect my watch

next week. Any comments will be appreciated., I'm sure he'll be happy

to know what you think of it too.

A great job of environmental portraiture. Lighting is wonderful and perfectly matched the mood. If there is some selective darkening it is done with masterful skill and is the perfect amount. Change nothing. 7/7.

David, thanks for your kind comments and ratings. Coming from you is a great compliment. You have a beautiful portfolio of very creative images. I enjoyed myself thoroughly browsing at your PN site.

I see your camera captured an air of confidence on his face. Good job. Have you tried B/W on it?

Excelllent detail and very good DOF for a f/5.6 exposure; I can almost read the labels on the boxes in the background.

The face seems to have a red caste (on my monitor) possibley due to the incandesent light on the workbench.

Thanks Francesco, Gaetan, Brooks, Ray for your comments. No I didn't try it in B/W because I like the way the yellow bulb cast a warm glow on his face. Something different from your everyday portrait with flash.

Great portrait Alec. There is a lot of stuff in the room but the eye can do anything but going on the man! Very well done!

Have learnt from your shots ever since you made it to my favorite list ;-). Great portrait.

Thanks Ali/Roberto, it was shot handheld at the spur of the moment when I saw the light glow on his face. I only had my trusty F505V with me and with 3.3megapixels I'm glad it's still able to capture the image decently. This is dedicated to all the beginners with basic cameras - you can do it too.

Great capture. The lighting is wonderful. I like it in color as the tones are muted anyway. The composition is nice as well.

Very nice environmental portrait. He should be very happy with this. Alec, how about a sepia version? That will really be "timeless."

Thanks Sarah, congrats on your little Cambodian girl. A real gem.

Wilson, I'll do a color and sepia tone photo for him. I'm sure he'll be happy his image is on the web.

hi Alec,

wonderful portrait...i love the monocular (i'm not sure what to call it...) on his forehead...i find it kind of ironic that he's not wearing a watch, though :)

actually, the size of the room and the expression on his face kind of reminds me of the "keymaker" from the matrix movies...

Hi Jeff, the cluttered space probably reveal to you that he's quite a traditional watch repairman. He has his own neighborhood shop for about 40 years now and charges very reasonable rates. His workmanship is excellent and I'm not kidding to say that he has all the right tools to repair even complex genuine Rolexes and electronic quartz watches. Being honest he has a lot of repeat customers.

The "keymaker" from the Matrix. Hmmmmm same smile?
