this little caterpillar just finished eating all the leaves on this

fennel plant and is now chewing on the stem. . .

It's a colourful little creature! I like how it's coming out of the 'darkness'.

Not colourful little creatures Peta -- these are actually tiny little sweaters Donna knits for them in her endless hours of spare time ...... Yep, she's a TinySweaterKnitter @ (tsk)

Thanks everyone for your comments.

Ken, the sweaters are easy, it's knitting all those little booties that cuts into my time. . . .

No Steve, this one was taken in my backyard. It's in chrysalis form now, attached at top and bottom, to a stem by silk threads . . . waiting to turn into a swallowtail butterfly.

Donna, I really like this little fellow. Great lighting, very crisp. As to the sweaters, I didn't know you all needed sweaters in Texas. Hip boots maybe with all the rain? Any way another great effort.

time to delete the caterpillar in my portfolio, this one is awesome and the background colors and the bokeh is very nice, just curious to know what was in the bg to get that color?? cheers!

Kristin, this should take about a week. . . they look like little Japanese lanterns at this stage. .

Pradeep, the background in this shot was composed of the siding of my house (deep red), the swimming pool (blue) and some grass (green). And please, don't delete your caterpillar shot, I took a look at it and it's very nice.

Well done composition--love the background rays and mixture of colors. Not very sharp, but these are tough little subjects.

I especially enjoy the gradual darkening towards the left. It produces a good 3D effect. Regards.

I agree with this being a tough subject. Haven't got anything yet that is good enough to upload in this place. About the sharpness, it looks OK for a web pic to me... Did you use a tripod, or is this a handheld effort, Donna?

David and Peter, I guess I need to work on sharpness in my macro images. . . taking these shots with this new macro lens is trickier than I thought it would be. . . my primary goal in this shot was to capture the face/head and to get maximum DOF along the body in addition to getting a relatively clean background without using a flash. This was taken handheld with an an f:14 and a shutter speed of 1/60 sec., which probably explains why it's a little fuzzy. I'm still all thumbs when it comes to using a tripod. . .and my subject always seems to walk away from the viewfinder. . . (~;
