The Bowfiddle rock

ian cameron

The classic view from the cliff tops at Portknockie just prior to sunrise which is at an ungodly 3am in July. While I was there a pod of about 50 dolphins were performing acrobatics by the rock. Presumably to celebrate sunrise.

3am starts, not my favourite time. However witnessing dolphins

performing acrobatics in the water by the rock at sunrise made it all

worthwhile.

It is a big rock. I wanted it big enough so you could see that the white spots on the rock is infact a gull and kittiwake colony.

Indeed, this is a big rock! I had look at the photo too quickly and had not noticed these white spots. But, even by watching attentively, it is very difficult to see they are seaguls. Anyway, when you know that, this rock is very impressive.

Hi, Ian. Really beautiful and good proof that we, lovers of landscapes must get as noisy as possible an alarm clock in order to be there when it matters: At sunrise!

And then have the eye, the sensibility and the ability to capture it!

I had been on holiday to the camp site at Port Knockie in my childhood for so many years. I instantly recognised this landmark - you have done this proud! I have rowed a boat through here. The rocks to the right would make great canyon shots - I think I need to plan a trip!

Thank you for your comments Bowfiddle rock is a subject that draws irresistably. An imposing rock with a classic view point. The slender arch is in fact deceptively deep when looked at from the right hand side of the picture.

Ian. At this angle it really seems like an elephant complete with it's trunk and mighty backbone. Love the colors.
