The Karthakali Performance

The Mahabharata is the great national epic poem of India

(officially known as "Bharat"). Last of my series.

This has been a magnficient series of images!

I agree with David. I'm glad we have a group shot going here, including the percussionist in the background. I remember Tuhin Saha suggesting that I do something with dancers and musicians - nice to see this demonstrated here.

 

By the way, how many dancers performed on this evening that you saw this?

great colors but I love how it fades to the dark background making the colors pop that much more

Amar, there were 6 performers when I was there from 1.30am to 3.00am. In between breaks there were some Indian cultural dances performed by village girls from Kerala.

It would make sense that the village girls would be from Kerala I guess, given that Kathakali is a dance form prevalent (and perhaps exclusive) in Kerala.

This is the best, IMHO, of the last three. The one that beter gives the atmosphere and flavour of the ceremony.
