This is shot in an open air 7 hours concert on the Indian Classical

Mahabhartha Mythology.

Looks like it is Kathakali, a classical dance form of the Indian State of Kerala, mostly enacting scenes from the Indian epics of Ramayana and Mahabharatha.

Yes, it is Kathakali, from the Southern State of India, Kerala. The Capture of colors and expressions is perfect. I was compiling a an article recently on Indian Classical Dance Forms, I wish, I had such a beuatiful photograph to include then. Loved it.

This is a darker image I captured but thought that the main image was better. What do you think?

Alec, Your main image is much more dynamic. The diagonal formed by the tilt of his head and angle of his arm make it so. If I had to choose, the main one would be it. It also fills the frame better, dividing the dark areas more evenly. A good example of when the square format is clearly superior. Excellent result for a candid shot. Could use a backlight to rim light the subject if it could be duplicated in a studio. Best, LM.

Amar, I'm glad you like my interpretation which I hope complements your inimitable style towards classical Indian dance portraits.

Thanks Amar, I actually have more so I'll try to sort them out soon.

Antonio, I'm impressed. From Italy and still you are familiar with Indian epics.

Alec, what a beautiful portrait, very nicly captured with all the colored details of the theatrical figure of the Mahabarata. I think that the first one is more convincing. Pnina

Very clean, pleasing portraiture. A series of these would be nice with small descriptions of each. I really like the way you used the fill-flash in this shot, subtle yet very effective.

You managed to get a pretty good one Alec. I guess your flash really did its job well! You know after I went home, I could still hear their drumming from a couple of kilometers away! because it was such a quiet late hour.

Amazing, what a great colors has this photo! The expression in his face is perfect.

Mahabharata, that sounds familiar, a few months ago I bought a book about that. Very interesting!

"...best viewed large", small, medium...whatever. From thumbnail up, this is a great shot (much more impact than the other you included in the comments section). Bright vivid colors on a black background...this is a winner. Nice work
