Bronica SQ Ai, 150mmPS. 1/8 @ f16, tripod, mirror locked up, cable release. From a recent field trip with fellow PNer Greg McCracken. Desaturated in PS using channel mixer. Cropped to a 4x6 format from original 6x6 neg. Thanks to Greg for his cropping advice on this one.

I guess that's what attracted my eye also. The original composition was square but I think a vertical crop is more effective here. The joys of MF:) Best, LM.

Len, I like the way the plunging water draws your eye out from the bottom of the photo. The vertical crop tells more of a story than the horizontal one you showed me. Regards!

Chris, Drop Shadow OK? Exposure, on Porta 400 UC, was determined with an incident reading taken from water level. Thanks for your input. Best, LM.

Drop shadow wasn't what I meant, but oddly enough it helps. My comment on the framing was in regards to the actual content of the photograph. I think that getting a wider shot, with whatever surrounded the water to act as a frame, would have been a better choice. Because there is nothing to put it into perspective, it's hard to tell if these are huge rapids or just rain water running off of your roof. The log is fairly dark and I can't judge the scale based on that (is it a full tree? or just a small twig?). A wider composition would have cought a bit of the surrounding rocks and that would help the framing/scale issue. I really like the pictures you have posted.

I just noticed that this was taken in Hilton Falls, I know the area very well but don't know where you found these rapids (if they are of the scale that I assume). Are these on the main Hilton Falls river? Above or below the falls?

By the way, ever notice the unusually large number of Canadians on photo.net?

Thanks

Chris, Here is the original full frame shot taken just above the falls (from the observation deck, actually). Nothing to naturally frame the shot & nothing to reference for scale. I'll try to keep that in mind next time. The log is dark because I didn't 'work' the curves in PS as much as I should have. Must sit back & be a bit more thoughtful about my posts as I do tend, with overzealous enthusiasm, to rush them to screen once I decide to post them. Big mistake! There ARE a lot of Canadian photographers who recognize the value this forum presents as a learning tool. Not sure if there are a disproportional number though. Perhaps it just seems like that. Best, LM.
