John mate, I'm not that struck by it. I get the impression that the purpose of the picture was a technical exercise in extreme long exposures. The majority of the picture is taken up with large, almost featureless spaces (sea and sky) with detail confined to the centrally placed horizon and dark foreground rock area (which I think is cropped too tightly). I suppose if I look any where it's at the eyes of the face with the rosy left cheek and side parting in the water.

hmm... this one doesn't strike me either, J. lack of a strong focal point/subject is what i feel strongly about this one. the first light of dawn and the stars don't connect so easily here, the way it is.. just an opinion.

Wait, don't leave yet! Let me get the door....

In spite of the very respectable rates this picture has accumulated, I tend to agree with the previous two posters: The image is "nice," but leaves something to be desired. I agree that there could be a better subject somewhere, something more significant visually to anchor the image. I like the dots in the water. Maybe something could have been done with those? Probably no lens to pull them closer...

jeeez... the guy's on a rampage tonight. Doug, didn't ya mother tell you to not to run around with scissors?? and John, i'm gonna count till 5, and you better get back here.. kids these days..sheesh!

okay. i think the reducto-robot has left behind a +ve effect here, imo. maybe i feel that way because it's not my shot? i'll wait for others to chime in on the crop, especially you, John.

What's more important gentlemen, your opinions or a bunch or marvellous 6's and 7's? I'm going to stuff a pillow with those 7's and sleeeeep eeeeeaaaaasy tonight!

OK, so those 7's weren't as soft as I'd hoped, all pointy and sharp they turned out to be, like Doug's scissors.

I guess I presumed the jetty to be the focal point. OK, it's not a point, but a line across the centre of the picture.

It's the same Bridport Jetty as in Bridport Jetty Version III (the POW), Bridport Jetty Version IV, Summer's Last Days, just sneaking into the right edge of Sunrise at Mermaid's Pool, and poking out from the edge of the she-oak in Bridport Foreshore. So this is the 6th picture in my folder with the old jetty in it. You orta be getting used to it by now. Or maybe you're just getting sick of it.

Nice crop Doug, plenty there to work with.

Sorry John I have to agree with above comments. There is too much empty space, the 50/50 horizontal split unbalances the shot. The jetty/horizon line leads the eye in one side & straight out the other. The rocks lead from bottom left to centre right & out of the frame again.I don't think Doug's crop helps much because it omits some of the strongest features.I have taken the liberty of borrowing Doug's scissors & chopping-sorry cropping to include only the strongest elements. The two lines-horizon & rocks now meet at the bay without the empty space to detract. It's not perfect but comes closer to the sort of composition I have come to expect from you.Regards Pete.

I don't mind agreeing with Pete's chop. I think the BARMS process left a lot of unsatisfying room in the sky. I like the larger bolders in the foreground, but couldn't see them fitting well with the BARMS process, so they had to go. Pete's chop/crop includes them very well.
