A US Flag that is no longer fit to be a proper symbol is destroyed in

a ceremony, usually by burning. Our Girl Scout Camp collects flags

throughout the year and holds such a ceremony on the last day of camp

each summer. Here is one image from last year.

No statement. Just a moving ceremony to retire old flags. This is an annual event and one I always wanted to photograph. It is quite amazing to see over 200 people, from young children to adults, silent while this is going on.
