You are going so quick, It is hard to folow all of this, but for sure it is a beautifull abstract, you see things with a very special eye

In the tradition of Carl Root! Very nice work, but I'd like it even better without the little triangle of blue sky in the upper right corner.

Yes, in the tradition of Mr. Root. I have gotten a much better response here than I would have expected. I took this on one of my earliest window hunts, and although I liked it I didn't think it would be that well received. You just never know I guess. =) Thanks everyone.

How come mine don't get rates like this. :-(

I'll tell you why. The warm color in the central window playing off the dark browns and blues is aesthetically pleasing. People are attracted to warm colors. Period. The second reason is that it really isn't an abstract. It's immediately recognizable as a window reflection. The relief carvings are also very nice . . again in part because they are recognizable.

But John's right. The eye is pulled up towards the light blue triangle, and for me the white windows are even more of a pull away from the center of interest. So the composition component of aesthetics isn't nearly as good as a couple of Tony's other recent reflection shots.

Here's a rough approximation of the shot I would have tried for . . . featuring the guy in the upper left, though.

I agree Carl. And the reason I posted this one is because I liked the way the stripe of light showing the statues in the middle windows, contrasted with the dark above and below. But I also liked that lowest line which had already fallen below sunlight.

To crop or not to crop? I didnt crop it because I wanted to some extra space to the left of the statue. I can post a second version and see if it makes more people happy, but I think it will have to be 3:2.

Thanks everyone. As I mentioned I'm rather surprised by the warm reception.

I really like this, and I'm not troubled at all by the square of light blue, since it maches the blue found in the windows, and is even adjacent to the same tan color as surrounds the blue in the windows. Overall, the effect is interesting. It is obviously a reflection, and yet it has texture and substance, as if it were more than a reflection, something existing independently.

I posted the same picture yesterday for an hour without the blue (in 3:2 format) Peter, and the ratings were at least .5 less on average. Go figure!

pretty but ultimately empty idea that's been played out decades ago.

Tony, I agree. I tired and worn out shot. Please put down your camera. Secure it nicely in a box. Seal the box. Mail the box to me in Oregon. I will keep it safe for you.

Carl is right about the warm colors and recognizable subject matter. Leave the blue triangle- its doesnt go so there for it must stay.

Knicki- if only my town of 2500 people would build some damn glass buildings and that box would hurry and get here I could show you how its done. ;)

laughing~! The Cure are starting some Curious Tour this summer, like Oz Fest or something, I hear. I saw them in '83, '84, and in '85. Man, they were just awesome. Especially in '84. They were wearing curator tuxedos, all gray and black, with the huge ruffles on the shirts and the tails that hung to the floor, and they only lights they used were white, and it was either pitch black, or so bright you could barely stand looking at them. All the songs off Pornography, Faith, and Seventeen Seconds too.

Right up there with the best I ever saw. =)
