Hi Len, It looks like it could have been a glass slide taken by Micklethwait of Muskoka at the end of the 1800's. I can imagine a matron in a long gown picknicing alonside of the falls. Nice capture!

Greg, She was there! Didn't you see her? I left her out because she wouldn't share her picnic. Lannie for PoW committee! :) Thanks guys, Best, LM.

Originally shot in colour, the relatively muted colours here prompted

me to convert this one to B&W via PS 'channel mixer'. Your approach

to a scene like this which would give a superior result would be most

appreciated. Best, LM.

Imanol, Thanks for taking the time & effort. I've seen a result of yours taken with the 'T' & it makes me glad I've never sold mine. I use mine as a backup and it sure came in handy earlier this year when the batteries in this Bronica froze up during a winter field trip. Best, LM.

I think this is a good one, but needs more contrast IMO, specially the blacks should be deeper, more darker.

Nestor, Thanks for your input. As for the lack of contrast, I tend to agree with you. I have a feeling this was not the file I intended to post. Sometimes I have 2 or 3 versions & usually post my favorite but I think I may have missed here. Easy to correct in any case. I was using Portra 160 NC on a low contrast, overcast day & I think I may have underexposed a bit. In any case here is a reworked version. Any improvement? Best, LM.

Hi Len, I was glad to see that this one got reworked because my initial reaction was 'not enough contrast!'. The second version you posted is definitely better. Howver, that aside I don't think the composition of this one quite works. I can't quite figure out what it is but it just jars a little for me (something about the details on the left - the logs and the brickwork - pulls my eye around a bit too much)

Daryl, A valid comment re: the elements of this composition. I can see where the relatively large foreground elements, a product of my WA 50mm lens, could bother some. It does tend to mimimize the size of the falls. Kind of like when someone uses a WA to photograph mountains, unless they are very close to them they tend to lose the grandure one experiences when one is on location. I did take others that day with my 80mm and it more acurately depicts the size of the falls in relation to it's surroundings. Gotta watch that the foreground elements don't overpower your subject. Best, LM.

Hmmm, don't know what happened to that one.  I didn't know it was missing but since it was posted in 2005 it could have gone AWOL for any number of reasons, a mystery for sure.  Nothing wrong with your wireless connection.  Thanks for the visit.  I see you've dug deep in my folders to come up with this one.  Much appreciated.  Don't be a stranger.  Best, LM
