Flowers in Homer, AK

aepelbacher

Adjusted and cropped in Photoshop cs. Yes, I know that 800 speed film is not optimal for landscape photography. I am working on composition and am also working within a budget. I used 400 and 800 speed film for this entire trip in Alaska merely for the flexibility ... I wanted to be able to shoot a couple of pics of a mountain then of a bear then of a building in changing weather conditions (often overcast) and with different length lenses without having to change out film. Thanks for the comments on film ... next time I go to Alaska (!!) I will take some 100 ISA with me!

After a closer look at my recent uploads, I noticed a lot of blue

skies, green foregrounds with some white snow thrown in every

once in a while. I decided that I needed to show y'all that some

of my images involve other colors!! Any comments or ratings are

most welcome! :-)

Ray, you often change your comments before I have a chance to reply to them! :-) Yes ... it was definitely taken around noon, and that's what I really don't like about the pic ... too bright and contrasty. But the pinks and fuschias are wonderful, so I went with that instead of trying to tone them down.

Yeah, sometime I revise them to make my critiques smooth. :-)

What I learned from taking flower shots is that sometimes when I get so close to it, it almost looks human face, and it's almost as if I was taking a portrait. Therefore some of the portraiture techniques may apply: upclose to get clarity; wider aperture to seperate the face from the BG; take it in the shades, natural window light, or at dawn/sunset. I like the vivid colors on this one; constrast gives a good saturation, but on the expense of textural subtlety.

I had the same issue with my "Monk in the mountain" shot, Alec Ee told me the similar things about photos taken at noon.

This looks so plastic to me, that it makes it nice, and I love this 'lavishly' look. Keep them going.

Make I any sence

Definitely not blue and white:-). With things like flowers and stuff in direct sunlight there are highlights and reflections that a polarizer will help with.
