Hope II

Another version sans sepia, different crop. APX 100, Rodinal 1+100 & a 50mm lens at f2.8 . Simple, superb.

This is a second version of a photo I submitted a couple days ago. This version is sans sepia & cropped differently.

Very 60's stye Jim... I like the crop on the right side. I would have left less space on the right too.... the only thing that I would complain about is the over-sharpened effect.

Jim, this is a gorgeous photo in miniature, the tones, expression, cropping make it stand out dramatically, in a way that makes me feel hopeful, so its very powerful. the oversharpening deters. i'd suggest a finer sharpening (i use lab color - lightness channel --settings around 500/0.5/0 then used fade to adjust on something like this, forgive me if you know all this).

You have obviously messed up in either developing or post processing to tell you the truth... I would take a look on the internet for other black and white photos to use as an example. You will get it eventually, but it takes time. Good luck with the learning process-- it's where most of the fun is.
