dumpster001 1 Posted May 22, 2004 absolutely wonderful street shot. the movement the contrast and the balance in the composition is terrific. simple, dynamic, and is thriving with the rhythm of the street. Link to comment

andrew_lee2 0 Posted May 26, 2004 I know I initially said it was framed too tightly for my taste, but there's still lots to like about this shot---I think it could become a classic. I like the motion blur, the selective focus, the grain, the gritty feel, the printing and tonal scale---I think it's just a great slice of American big-city existential angst. Link to comment
laura2 0 Posted June 2, 2004 It strikes me funny. I have no idea why. If it makes me laugh, you've prolly done a good job. :) Link to comment
bens 0 Posted June 18, 2004 Ray, agreed with your POW comments, thought I'd look at your work and I'm delighted I did. This one is complicated and I haven't digested it yet. On aesthetics, the tones are great, but I'd dull his shirt quite a bit. my eye went there very quickly, and i don't think you necessarily want that to happen. Substance. I see a blurred "worker", a blurred "? student" and a corporate type with some blur, but face captured crisply and looking at the camera. what i am debating is whether or not to blur the corporate type, since to me the contrast between him and "worker" walking down the street together is the most striking part of the photo, rather than having the corporate type emphasized more, which the crispness does automatically. But then, what would that do for the shot? what does a sense of movement say? don't know. just some thoughts. on balance, i admire the photo cuz its a simple scene that provokes some real social thought . . . bens 0 Posted June 18, 2004 follow-up -- it looks like "war" printed on the newspaper held by the "worker." everyone looks harried and grim in the photo. maybe its a microcosm of the times -- a grimmer, darker america where we are all a little beaten down and moving a little faster just to stay in our place, with corporate types still making sure they are dressed sharply while WAR surrounds us, while the "worker" is looking to see which way the corporate types will go, while the "student" is right behind both, wondering what to do as he comes of age, with once prosperous storefronts covered over. okay, lots of thought, hope its useful. janet cull 0 Posted January 29, 2008 I love that stark, solid gaze! Makes me want to get out on the street and shoot. Nice! By the way, did he say anything to you? I'd guess not. Link to comment
mbh 0 Posted September 14, 2009 Wonderfully strong capture, the expressions on each individual's face give us reason to read meaning into this shot. Link to comment
