peter_meisterle 0 Posted May 18, 2004 Very appealing colors! Unfortunately there is a problem with the right side which disturbs the composition in my oppinion; I would suggest to try burning in the lower right portion or to crop one quarter of the picture; best regards, Peter. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted May 18, 2004 Thanks for your comments. Tom, you're right. I read about this in one of Patterson's books. Link to comment
neurocat 0 Posted May 18, 2004 This one really moves me. It's so delicate and soothing. My eyes want to rest on it all day. Link to comment
rod_rumble 0 Posted May 19, 2004 Great shot! Just missing the Patterson swirl. Perhaps brighten, to highlite Impressionist style. Link to comment
barclayphoto 0 Posted May 19, 2004 A wonderful image. I'll be spending time with Freeman in Namaqualand in August and can't wait! This one would make Freeman proud. I agree the the bottom right does take away from the balance a bit and feel a crop of the right side would help. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted May 19, 2004 Thanks for all of the comments. I will consider cropping the right side. John, I hope you enjoy your time with Freeman. I own three of his books and have just started trying some of his techniques. I'm in the middle of a two-month flower photography assignment. Basically, nothing but flowers. It has been hell, but I'm learning a lot! Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted May 22, 2004 Robert, it looks like you're really getting the hang of this flower photography! They just keep getting better. I'm a Freeman Patterson admirer too. I missed a lecture by him when he came to the island last year, much to my dismay. This is a lovely image in his style. Personally, I think cropping the right would stop the flow and make the image look 'boxy'. But possibly cropping a thin strip off the bottom to eliminate the strong pink at the edge would soften it and reduce the contrast in the transition to the green. Does that make sense or am I rambling again? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted June 28, 2004 I've been trying a lot of this lately but have been a little discouraged by my results. On the other hand, I think this works really, really well! Perhaps it's the subtlety? I hope you'll not mind my taking inspiration from this and other images here and 'getting back out amongst it'? Link to comment
