I felt out of this planet when, early morning, this and fellow lizardscame out of the jungle to lay in the sun on the beach of remote Rincaisland in Indonesia, giving sense to three days on a converted andcramped fishermen boat to get there.

Imagine your backjard gecko blown up 20 times to a 3 meters 100 kganimal...

Eventually, once their blood warmed up, much earlier than expected, though, they proved to be quite fast runners... but that's another-scary- story.

So far with my story... your comments?

Very good composition here. I like the contrast between the sharp head and the blury background. I'm sure they make nice pets. Haha.

The plants in the bottom part are really disturbing. If there weren't there the photo would have get better ratings

An interesting photo, I'm impressed you got this close. These lizards are really pretty dangerous, their bite while not vicious can do a bit of damage but their saliva is loaded with tons of really nasty germs.

Folks, thanks for all the comments.

Uwe They would be interesting pets for sure, till the bill for feeding would come! I bet there's a market to replace German shepards as watch dogs with those monsters

Adrian There's a funny story about this guy who went in the forest to take pictures of them, and all they found was the camera, without any dragon picture: they like to eat photographers taking them by surprise!

Nicolas You have a point about those plants...but it did not seem very appropriate to go even closer and get them away!

Igor You are somehow right, but that was the colour of the eye of the thing, after all.

Carl Indeed, I got quite close. Too close once its blood got warm enough [earlier than expected in the day, around 8:00, rather than 11:00: it was a warm night] and it started first moving, then lifted the tail and started running... scared the hell out of us!

Salvatore, my image is only a sculpture and doesn't bite but just as scary. Heheheh {Taken in Ubud, Bali at the Monkey Forest.)
