Gruinard Bay

ian cameron

Gruinard bay nestles between two large hills. The southernmost hill has a fantastic overlook reached by a short climb. This shot was taken at sunrise and I was pleased with the light striking the rock and background mountains. I needed some form of foreground interest and I think I just about get away with it though I would have loved to see a small boat in the bay to counterbalance the rock.

An amazing view from this lofty overlook I think the boulder kissed

by early morning light adds foreground interest, perhaps others might

prefer it reduced in size or absent altogether, either way I wished

there had been a wee fishing boat in the bay.

I like the size of the boulder.

Surely, without it the shot would be way worse. In the unfortunate circumstance of the absence of the fishermen, it might be moved more toward the centre of the frame...

The boulder in my opinion makes the shot. It would be pretty ordinary without it.

The image is quite nicely composed and the soft warm light is beautiful on the landscape.

Thanks for the comments folks. I agree the boulder is absolutely essential. My initial thoughts were it's so damn big it fights with a very attractive background for attention which is why i tried to demphasise it by pushing it to one side. I couldn't go any further back without wings.

Beatiful landscape. The boulder enriches the composition a lot IMO. It makes me wish to go to Scotland!
