alecee 0 Posted May 3, 2004 The largest Buddha statue housed in a temple in Singapore. Love the lighting on this image. Link to comment
niels olson 0 Posted May 3, 2004 Bottom is cluttered, lighting is cluttered. Us a view camera on bulb at night and walk around in the image with a flash to put light where you want it. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted May 3, 2004 Niels: Perhaps you still cannot imagine how huge this statue is. If you walk around and use flash at night to get the lighting then you'll probably end up with a very bright base and dark Buddha head! Unless you want to use a tall ladder or scale up the ceiling and rappel down to shoot the flash to all of the statue. As it is, a simpler alternative is to shoot like I did. There is enough available light from all directions of the open ceiling to provide a clean and pleasant image. (See image) BTW, I have actually hidden the "clutter" as you call it. If you have visited any temples you will understand that incense, joss sticks, offerings and deities are standard display items there. Having a glimpse of your photo.net portfolio I believe you still have a lot to learn about basic photography skills then to provide constructive criticism to others. Link to comment
john_chapman1 0 Posted May 3, 2004 Actually, I much prefer the complete view version, for a variety of reasons. In the original, the tops of the things that surround the base appear as intruding clutter, while the complete photo shows the Buddha in the context of its surrounding and gives better perspective to its size. alecee 0 Posted May 3, 2004 Thank you John for your comments. The reason why I used the main image is the because it has a halo glow on the ceiling which seems appropriate for "attaining nirvana?". The second image of course show the visual spaces and light source to substantiate my point that there is sufficient available light but then again, this angle is the most common for snapshots by tourists. duncan3 0 Posted May 4, 2004 Alec, Great capture! And I really do like the "attaining Nirvana" dome top better. Congratulations! Link to comment
ajpn 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Alec- I can see why you like the image you have posted. Love the ceiling, and the colored light on the beams... very ethereal, which works wonderfully with Buddha. I also like the second version posted as an attachment. Too bad you couldn't have worked it so that both the upper and the lower were visible, but I know how that can go. Must be a great energy in this room. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted May 6, 2004 Thank you Duncan / Anthony for the positive comments. Looking at the ratings I am astounded that Per has rated it 1/1 without any explanations and as expected he doesn't have any images in his site. I usually don't bother but this time I do - perhaps he is against religious theme? What else? Link to comment
