"Smoke Pattern in Color #2"

Back to a plain black background. The colors are as captured, just

enhanced. Top and bottom trimmed to provide seperation.

Brilliant concept and execution...I'm not sure how you got the totally black background..Did you use a darkroom?

I used a single Alien Bees B-800 strobe at full power 18" to the right of the smoke. The background is flat-black cloth about ten feet behind the smoke with very little spill from the strobe. This gives a nearly black background, and a bit of contrast and/or level adjustment does the trick.

 

So, strong side-lighting coupled with low ambient light and a flat-black background as far away as possible seems to be the ideal setup for this type of shot.

I've seen it done before but never with this clarity. This image is practically 3D. Nice going.

This is among my favourite of the folder. I also prefer the shots with the black background and the blue smoke over the other combinations.
