'Aarthi'

pradeep1

The Fifteenth and last in my series on 'A South Indian Wedding' - 'Aarthi'. We have our set of beliefs and superstitions, The Aarthi is taken to wade off evil spirits and for the well being of the young couple. The Aarthi is taken by 2 people, one from the brides family and one from the bridegrooms family. The plate that they are holding has a mix of calcium (Sunnambu), red powder (Kungumam) and water, The plate is shown to the couple and they drop some coins into it, and then after a few circular motions of the plate, its thrown outside away from everyones view. There is a saying in tamil which goes thus - 'Kalladi pattaalum Kannadi Pada Koodaadhu' which means even if you get hit by stones its fine but dont get the evil stares of people, its more dangerous, i somehow find this true. This is the last in the series of 'A South Indan Wedding', I hope you liked the journey and found it a little informative and a peek at our culture, I am sure I have not done complete justice, but I am happy with the start :) As suggested by many of you, I will be making a presentation with all these photographs, so keep watching the presenataion space.A small request - I would like the members to see all the photographs in this series in totality as this is more of a series and a story rather than individual photographs :)

would have been better if you could see the entire body of the most important person in the scene..lets say its the man and the wife on the left to him..i guess this are the two persons who are getting married ..dont they?...then you could have probably captured his entire feet..got me..would have benn a lotbetter..i dont know how much light there was..but possible you could have tried to get some movement in the certain persons actions...

anyway ...i really like the coloration...keep it up..best regards

good to see your comment, i agree with you, these two ladies though didnt do justice to the aarthi, they didnt go huge circles that they typically do, about the feet, yes i agree with you :) If you see the bigger file you can see the coins drop though :) By the way this is the last in the series, and i need to work on the presentation now :) Thanks and cheers!

Pradeep, a nice finale. I like how you got the vaadyaar in mid sentence on the bottom left. Look forward to seeing your presentation.
