kslonaker 0 Posted April 26, 2004 Nice lighting and shadows. Strong plant shape that makes an interesting shadow. Good capture! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted April 26, 2004 Regina, Very nice photo. I like your composition and contrasts. The sole green plant against the browns and blacks of the background brings my attention to the center and keeps it there. Very well balanced. Very pleasing. It has a calming tone for me. focus mankind 0 Posted April 27, 2004 Great picture - lightning is just perfect. I share Loft's opinion (I don't like the frame) - but this is just my opinion. Link to comment
donnaalbers 0 Posted April 27, 2004 Great composition in addition to the shadow detail. Link to comment
thomas_turk 0 Posted April 27, 2004 A superb photo should be able to stand out alone, without the aid of a frame... and, as this balanced, strict, clear, well lit composition does... it matters NOT whether one likes the frame or not..It succeeds well with or without it.. Link to comment
someoneelse 1 Posted April 27, 2004 Loft said only the frame=ugly, and I think you take this too serious. He gives a 7/7.....but yes he is my husband, so I understand what he means. Now what I have to say, about this NICE picture, I love the simplicity of this photo, and ofcourse the shadow effect. What I don'tlike about this picture is the black in the right top....but still it is GREAT Link to comment
LenMarriott 9 Posted April 28, 2004 Regina, Most of us would, perhaps, be drawn to the green plant against the lighter log but you've chosen a camera angle in which the shadow of the plant is most prominent. The shape of the plant is more clearly defined by it's shadow than the plant itself. Keen eye! As for the beauty\lack of beauty of the frame, well it's entirely subjective. Where the background, as in PN, is white, a frame of some sort is often required to define the edges of the shot, but perhaps not required here. The drop shadow effect, alone, may have been enough. Best, LM. Link to comment
jos www.inpix.biz 0 Posted April 28, 2004 My eye was quickly drawn to the photo and I love the clarity of the shadow. I thought the frame complimented the shot extrodinarily well (shadows and all) and then I read the remarks...oh well, that's what opinion is all about ... very good and interesting shot. 1000wordsphotography 0 Posted April 29, 2004 Thanks so much for such kind words and ratings. I liked the shot the moment I took it. Sometimes you can just feel when you've got it right. Len noticed the out of focus green leaves... I was afraid that it would take away from the overall shot, but it doesn't seem to have done so. As far as the framing effect,,, well it is my standard type. A drop shadow to create some depth, and a thin border. Didn't think it would be a big issue. Sometimes it is a little thing that makes a difference in how a photo is received tho... Anyway... thanks again! Link to comment
ceaselessbliss 0 Posted April 29, 2004 I guess Im not the only one who noticed the front leaves were out of focus... this only slightly detracts from the photo. Excellent shot. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted June 4, 2004 Hi Regina. I like this image the moment I saw it. The mellow lighting is very very good. I agree the leaves are a little out of focus, perhaps due to focusing on the shadow of the leaves. The only thing that bothers me is how the soft evening light can create such a hard dark leafy shadow? Seems unnatural for this lighting condition. Why, even the green leaves have different shades of colors. If flash was used I imagine the leaves will be in one tone. Nonetheless a really beautiful image deserving of a 7/7 for execution. roscotboswell 0 Posted June 16, 2004 One of my favorites in your portfolio. Simple, elegant. The frame doesn't bother me one way or the other. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted June 17, 2004 Hi Regina. It's been a while since I visited your portfolio and I see you advancing in leaps and bounds. I chose this one to comment on because I like its daring simplicity and textural detail. I'm often captivated by strong shadows and how they portray the alter ego of the subject. You've captured it nicely. Link to comment
andre_mcnichols 0 Posted March 28, 2005 I noticed the out of focus leaves as well and I don't see it as a problem. On the contrary, the contrast between the sharp shadow and the slightly blurred leaves is what kept my eyes on your image. Andre Link to comment
