wogears 186 Posted April 25, 2004 Bet this would have been better if I'd gotten there in May! (JPEG artifacts are the inevitable result of getting a detailed 600x800 pixel image down to 100K.) Link to comment
josep lluís grau 0 Posted April 25, 2004 Les, windows are one of my favourite subjects but in this shot I'd suggest you to crop about half of the wall over and under the windows (resulting in a more rectangular format) and, IMHO, you have raised too much the saturation. Kind regards, Link to comment
bacsa 0 Posted April 25, 2004 Very appealing photo. The colours are a bit oversaturated for my taste, but i still like it overall. Link to comment
wogears 186 Posted April 26, 2004 Yup, yup, ran the Saturation slider about as far as it will go in ACR! I wish I had a Saturometer that I could use to examine other people's photos on P.N. I think I could demonstrate a direct correlation between scores for aesthetics and degree of saturation... Link to comment
my_pics 0 Posted May 19, 2004 Les, Point taken. Truth is, the more brilliant the colors, the better we like 'em. Saturometer! LOL. I've kind of wished P.N. had an automatic system that reveals how many people who advise cropping just bought their digi cam last month and now they're experts telling people to destroy good composition in order to crop down to nothing but the subject, "bull's eyed" right in the middle. I make no pretentions about being anywhere near professional level; but I did get a roar out of your "Saturometer." Now, it's my turn to be an arm-chair photo critic. Maybe the material was not there to shoot; but I'd like, rather than hack off the top and bottom, see more to the right and left so that the windows don't seem to be pushing the edges. My qualifications for being a critic: Bought digi cam last month, joined Photo.net yesterday and now own my second copy of Popular Photography. Oh, the free software that came with my digi cam is AMAZING! And my ex-wife was a photo contest judge at the county fair in 1987. She gave the blue ribbon to the picture looking down at the kid with ice cream all over his face..."It was SO keeyoooot!" (I hope you believed all that, LOL.) Link to comment
vertigoclimb 5 Posted July 7, 2004 under rated in my humble opinion. a very nicely artisitic shot. tones are great, colors are pleasing, well composed and a pleasure to my eye. Great work. There is one small nit pickish comment... I would love to see this cropped a bit tighter on the top and bottom. Seems it would look interesting. anyway, very good job! june ferrol 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Very nice shot...I can appreciate the other comments about cropping tighter both on top and bottom, but the stonework is just TOO good unerneath to crop it out! I like it fine the way it is, colour saturation is spot on for me, enjoyed! regards, June. Link to comment

snapshooter 0 Posted May 6, 2007 It's excellent, and unique the way it is. I had similar thoughts re more space, particularly along the left border, and cloning it in looked good, but lost the impact. I cropped from the top and that was no improvement whatsoever. Cropping from the bottom would serve no purpose, as it would destroy the balance, the more recent stone patchwork in the lowere right corner, provides the larger left window. Link to comment
snapshooter 0 Posted May 6, 2007 Tried sending you an email with the reworks(small). It was immediately returned as non deliverable/permanent failure. Just thought you should know, in the event you've changed your address or prefer keeping it private, and PN isn't aware of it. Link to comment
JohnMWright 1 Posted January 16, 2008 Wonderful warm color and light, great texture and composition! Link to comment
lucyhollis 2 Posted March 2, 2008 very effective. The bright saturated colours makes this place feel very jolly, even if the stone work makes it look stuck in time. Link to comment
christopher dodds 0 Posted September 22, 2009 There is a lot to love about this image. I like the contrast of one window with one pane and it's 1/4 size of the larger, four paneled window. Nice warm colors and great balance. Link to comment
