'Kashi Yathrai'

pradeep1

The seventh in my series on 'A South Indian Wedding'. 'Kashi Yathrai' This is a very joyous occassion and friends and relatives across the country and abroad come for the wedding, this is the best time to get together. Everyone looks forward to the wedding and starts preparing for it well in advance, In this picture you will see the traditional attires for the immediate family, the men wearing the 'Panjakacham' and the women wear the 'Madisaaru'. This photograph was taken right after the 'Kashi Yatrai', where the bridegroom gets cross and decides to go to Kasi, a holy destination, the father-in-law then goes and convinces the bridegroom to reconsider his decision. Look forward to the next in the series of 'A South Indan Wedding' A small request - i would like the members to see all the photographs in this series in totality as this is more of a series and a story rather than individual photographs :)

Norbert, if you look at the entire series as Pradeep has mentioned, you would see that it is more than just a family portrait, but a window into a particular religious/social tradition. That said, I think the image could you use some sharpening, but altogether given the overall presentation, it certainly has its place.

Pradeep, this looks to me like the Kaashi yaatra. Is that so? If this is the case, you might want to describe this portion of the ceremony a bit more.

Scribbles of light?? Vik you crack me up my fellow humanoid!

I guess i must have been a mutt when i uploaded this photograph, thanks Amar, i have made the changes to the title and the description to include the kashi yathrai. Norbert, i hope you get to see the complete series, and if you are still not interested, sorry :)

Good that you included this explanation, it takes it topically out of just being a family portrait and places it within a specific ceremonial framework.
