Gullfoss
"GREETINGS FROM ICELAND". Shot sometime between 17. and 20. July 2002. Zoom range 85mm. I recently decided to post this image here on PN because I feel it as a proper addition to my Icelandic landscape images. Gullfoss (The Golden waterfall) is Iceland's most famous waterfall, and one of the natural wonders of the world. It is in the mighty glacial river Hvita (White river), just a few kilometres from another natural wonder, the world-famous "Geysir" The enormous white glacial cascade drops 32 metres into a narrow canyon which is 70 metres deep and 2.5 kilometres long. Its spectacular two-tiered cataract hangs in the air like fine drizzle, which forms a rainbow in the sunlight. In winter it has an unusual appearance when it is garbed in ice and snow. Preserved 1979. The black spot in the middle to the left are three persons viewing the waterfall. Best viewed in LARGE format. Thanks in advance for your time. Copyright: Baldur Birgis
