Misty twilight

ian cameron

Coniston water is not normally my favourite of the lakes in this part of the world. However when I arrived in the pre-dawn light and saw the fence and jetty disappearing into a vanishing point, a rising mist pinkening as the first glimmer of sunrise warmed the cold blue of a twilight sky. I felt the hackles on my neck rise and captured the moment on film.

7's as well. might've gotten rid of a little of the foreground shoreline, but that's it. What are "hackles" though?

Very nice. Beautiful light and mood. A calm and well-balanced composition with good lead-in lines. As much as I like the colours, I find the blue at the bottom of the frame a bit intense. Maybe setting it back just a bit would match the serene mood of the shot even better.

Hackles are those small hairs at the back of your neck. Glad you like the picture. By the way it's worth me mentioning that this is not digitally altered I did use an 80B filter on camera to accentuate the chill. The sun staining the mist magenta was a definite bonus.

This is really very nice--Michael Kenna in color! One minor note: I think your horizon line is tilted some. I've also taken the liberty of trying to Kenna-cize this.

What a gorgeous piece of art! I'd be tempted to remove that bottom bit of shore, but it looks great the way it is.

The 80B was a good call. The rocks in the foreground are a tease; they don't add to the dreamlike serenity of the misty hues. The strong vertical structures are enough to ground the image securely, while more of the rocks would change my sensations entirely. Definitely an image to remember.

Very nice

I would have cropped a bit from the bottom of the pic though
