I like the look of disbelief on his face. The film lends a gritty feel to this that seems appropriate in this case. Clutter in the background distracts a bit IMO.

I agree on above comments. The background is a bit disturbing. I think you got a good result with acceptable grains taking into account the film you used. It is much better to have these grains than to use flash and give up the authentical look. You must have been pretty close taking into account you used a 50 mm. Impressing that he didn't bother about a camera 1 m from his nose. The sandwich must have been rather interesting?

Stefan and Allan,

I certainly agree about the background. In fact, I made a few digital alterations with the figures in the background burned darker until they are almost invisible. If I decide to reprint this image, I will burn them in the darkroom.

Oh, what was so interesting about the sandwich? A piece of lettuce which was removed and discarded (as it should have been; I don't like lettuce in my sandwiches either ).

Thank you both for taking the time to comment.

Hi Brooks: Nicely captured moment! I don´t think the figures in background distracting. I think the man to the right with the tin in his hand important, both for the composition and because of the image content. Perhaps the chairs? to the left might be removed, I´m not sure and this is just my opinion. All the best, Baldur

Hi Brooks.Very nice capture.

Thank?s for your comment in one of my pictures. Yes, I do love to take pictures of children and make B&W portraits and I?m glad to see that we have similar tastes...

My best regards.

Nice! I like the grain...but just my preference. I also am not a huge fan of lettuce on my sandwiches...except for maybe on a BLT.

The tones are pretty attactive. Lovely composition of the boy in action. I bet you had fun printing this in the darkroom.
