A lot of grain is not compatible with photos of children, or so many

seem to think. I think the grain achives a softness that is very

appropriate for this this shot. What do you think?

The "large" version looks awful, wonder why since the original is within specs and should not have been resized... Medium size looks a little better.

Hi,

I dont particularly like the grain apparent in the large version. I personally dont think it adds to the image, Which I think is a great composition.

Have you tried using a red filter to create that soft look? Personally I quite like the effect it has when taking portraits.

Out of interest, what did you process your Delta 3200 in? Its a little grainer then Im used to seeing it, when processing in ID11 after pushing to 6400.

Love your Folio by the way!

Cheers!

Mark

Hi Mark - thanks for your comments and suggestions. I tend to avoid the red channel when I do digital b/w conversions, so I am intrigued by your suggestion which runs contrary to that. Maybe just a matter of taste, but would like to check it out.

The film was exposed as 1600 but developed as 3200 in Ilford DD-X. The large image here was mangled by photo.net somehow, and the crop I uploaded only gives an idea about the grain, but nevertheless I find your observation about the grain intersting as well.
