maria_di_liegro 0 Posted March 29, 2004 Yeah, you got the whole story alright. What a great shot! Link to comment
victor_mty 0 Posted March 29, 2004 Wow! This is great! It's very powerul. You captured the moment perfectly. Plus, I like the tonal range and 3 dimensionality. Link to comment
g_rard_laurenceau 0 Posted March 29, 2004 J'ai couvert des centaines de combats de boxe... Je connais la difficulté à photographier ce sport, votre image est exceptionnelle ... Link to comment
marco ussi 0 Posted March 29, 2004 Sometimes for a great sport shot you don't need an ultra long telephoto lens, but being as close as you can where the action takes place and you were very close indeed. I hope you didn't get a punch in the nose for being too close... Link to comment
gemccaw 1 Posted March 30, 2004 Just a fraction of a second earlier or later and much of the impact of this shot would be lost. The victor is still so pumped and his opponent so utterly beaten...with the added touch of the ref reaching to restrain him, complemented by the obvious enjoyment of the spectacle by the spectator at the right...I don't know how this could be any better. You've added to that a sublime composition and a complete range of tones to ice the cake. Well done. Link to comment
jeff_hilbrecht 0 Posted March 30, 2004 Simply a great shot. I was immediatly drawn to it. Nicely framed, great exposure, powerful subject matter, impeccable timing, etc. Jeff Link to comment
Wayne Melia 5,997 Posted March 30, 2004 Thank you for sharing this one with us.The major graphics and micro details all brought masterfully together in one photo....eg. the cross lighting on the victor's body delineating the muscles of his neck & limbs, the spectators' faces, the highlit rope complementing the perspective of the loser's "proneness", ...It just goes on and on.... evocative and engaging.ps. for another boxing shot that one my fav's on photo.net; see this Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted March 30, 2004 This is as epic as Ali's posture after knocking out his arch rivals. So powerful, so much nostalgic, so much to tell. You have enough presence of mind to jump right on the ropes to capture this. You better have this one hung on your wall to do it justice. Link to comment
trd 0 Posted March 30, 2004 Great shot. And shot at precisely the right moment. The position of the camera is also just right for the shot. Link to comment
or_sachs 0 Posted March 30, 2004 the shot is really good , great colors and a wonderfull use of black and white , with the wide angle u have imporved this image even more then with this catch. at the right side u see the man with the microphone , on the left one you see the ref and in the middle the poor guy with the ropes actking like rules. great shot , gave u a double 7 :) Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted March 30, 2004 This has it all. Wide angle an excellent choice Link to comment
bart 1 Posted March 30, 2004 Very nice shot. The only thing that distracts me a bit is the chandelier (is it a chandelier) between his back and the ref's arm Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 30, 2004 Incredible, one of the best photos i've ever saw in PN, many compliments, it's great!!! Link to comment
john_jarrett 0 Posted March 30, 2004 I really love this shot. It captured my attention as soon as I saw it. So many sports shots are just not able to get the reactions of the spectators, they are usually too far from the event but this is almost like two shots in one. Congratulations. Link to comment
the lone ranger 0 Posted March 30, 2004 this is a great shot. very dramatic and up close and personal angle. Link to comment
artofheadshots 0 Posted March 30, 2004 Hi Tom, I was reading your list of equipment wondering how you photographed this picture. My mental Soliloquy was telling me that I should invest in a wide angle lens, and then I read your comment "sometimes a wide angle tells a story". And what a great story! Perfectly dramatic with all the details - thank you, and thank you for sharing with us. Link to comment
