Seracs on the ascent to the Mont Blanc du Tacul

Taken on a glacier in the french alps during the ascent to theMont Blanc du Tacul at around 3500m/11000ft.

The right shadow is mine, the left the one of the climbing partner.What about these shadows? Do they add or not? Comments and criticismhighly appreciated!

Beautiful, I think your shadow adds to the picture but the angle of your friends is disturbing. Perhaps if he was just standing next to you when you took the picture, so it looks like you are both standing there in awe.

We took care, for safety, not to stand in the same place... this is after all heavily crevassed region.

 

As for the angle... he was thirsty and reaching for his bottle!

 

Question: what if I were to cut him out of the picture and getting a square crop with just the serac and me?

Chris, I've hundreds of shots from West Valais taken last summer to scan (Combins, Turtmann, Zinal)... but with the nice season I'm now more likely to be in the mountains than at the scanner! Hope to visit (and shot) the Dolent, the Zinalrothorn, and something in the Emosson region (Ruan, Salliere,...) and in the Blanc massif again. Cheers, s.

I agree. I also spend better my time in the mountains than scanning. However, this picture makes it worth to spend the time. It is a peace of art, very creative, and it must make you feel very well. Manuel.

All I can say is this shot KICKS ASS!! Extremely well done.

I thought it was nice to add an overview of this place and put into contest the place where the shot was taken...roughly where the red circle is. We were midway a walk which started with a 1am wake-up in a hut in Italy, and ended around 5pm with a final walk up-hill to the Aiguille du Midi cable car.

I love the shadows, esp. the way they are angled the same as the serac. Very nice!
