stevemarcus 0 Posted March 23, 2004 Steven, I was very fortunate to have had nearly perfect conditions (weather, lighting, etc.) on the evening that I took this and other shots in my GC folder, particularly because my visit was very short and this was my one and only evening there. The next morning I was back at the canyon before sunrise, but it was foggy until nearly 11 a.m., and I had to drive back to Phoenix for an evening flight. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 23, 2004 Wonderful work! Even better than Salma Hayek's photog character work in the film she made with the 'Friends' guy... :-))) - best, Gary Link to comment
christian deichert 1 Posted March 23, 2004 Nice play of light and shadows in the foreground. Odd cloud pattern in the background -- normally when the clouds are scattered like this in Arizona you can see them all the way out to the horizon. Must have been a big cloudbank back there, which makes the sunlight in the foreground that much more precious. Link to comment
the grey house 0 Posted March 23, 2004 Steve, breathtaking composition, toning and fantastic light. One of the best I have seen on this very photographed subject. Congratulations. Regards Paul... Link to comment

john_jay2 0 Posted March 23, 2004 Great subject, superb lighting and well taken. One of the best photos I have seen on this site over the last few days. All the strength of the shot is of the canyon itself and I don't think the sky adds a lot. I have been looking at this on my screen both with and without the sky. Cropped away the picture looks very different and concentrates the eye on those beautifully lit rocks. With or without the sky it is still a great shot. Although everyone shoots the Canyon I still feel this deserves a high mark for originality because of your decision to use mono bringing out that wonderful tonal range. Link to comment
francis_cailles 0 Posted March 25, 2004 how about a rating of 10/10? Absolutely fantastic. My hands are clapping. Link to comment
robert goldstein 0 Posted March 25, 2004 B&W landscapes are very challenging, at least for me. This is about as good as they get. The light is fabulous. Great tonality, too. Link to comment
peter_daalder 0 Posted March 28, 2004 Superb Canyon details, but I agree with comments made about the clouds in the background. They add something but are not vitally important here. In fact, it looks a little bit as if they have been imported from elsewhere... Link to comment
dancerdoc 0 Posted April 8, 2006 I agree with the prior comments. Excellent lighting and nice composition. You were truly fortunate. I like this better than the color version. Link to comment
